Skiing: Last minute holiday?

banner4_20090605153732 Skiing: Last minute holiday?

I normally book my ski holidays a while in advance as I usually go with a large group of people so it's the only practical option. This year however there's only two of us going, so I am wondering if it is worth booking last minute. What are people's experiences with this? Due to work commitments I will have to book time off soon anyway, so won't get the advantage of hanging on for a good snowfall, but will I get a cheaper deal booking last minute? If so how late is the best time to book? I want to go in Feburary or March – I don't mind particularly which country I go to (but still in Europe to keep costs down), but would want to go somewhere with a medium to large piste area, so would probably like to go to one of the bigger resorts. Prefer hotels to self-catering. Am I likely to get a better deal booking last minute, or is this only the case if the snow is bad? Any advice would be very welcome. Thanks
